Picture Day Info for Teachers & Staff

I know picture day can feel like “one more thing” in an already full week.

My goal is simple: Make this easy for you.

Because I photograph preschools exclusively, I understand how your day flows and I work within it, not against it.
Here’s what you need to know.

1. Do I need to help get the kids to smile?

Nope. You get a break. You do not need to stand behind me, jump around, sing songs, or wave stuffed animals. Engaging with little ones is my specialty. I’ll talk with them, not at them. We’ll keep it natural and relaxed. Most of the time, the biggest smiles happen when everyone else steps back.

If I feel like a student might need a little extra, I’ll make an exception and ask for a little help in pulling out their sweet smile.

2. Please avoid messy crafts on picture day.

If at all possible, let’s skip:

• Paint
• Markers
• Glitter
• Sensory bins with dye or food coloring
• Yogurt or spaghetti lunches before photos

Even the most careful child somehow ends up with blue fingers five minutes before their turn. Clean hands and clean faces make a big difference.

3. How many students should I bring in at a time?

Preschoolers have short attentions spans (am I right?). So, bringing in small groups, about 4-5 students, at a time works best.

4. Siblings

If we are photographing siblings, please be aware that the oldest sibling will be brought out of their class to take pictures with their younger sibling during the younger sibling’s class photo day. I will coordinate with the school and let you know what students in your class will be getting their picture taken with a sibling(s).

4. When do teachers get photographed?

If we are taking teacher photos, you can hop in real quick after everyone in your class has gotten their picture taken.

Simple. Easy. Done.

5. What should I wear?

First, get guidance from your school director/administrator. Confirm that there isn’t a required dress code.
If they are leaving it up to: Solid colors photograph beautifully. If you’re unsure, keep it simple. Avoid tiny patterns, neon colors, and large logos.

6. How long does this take?

Individual student portraits move quickly. Most children are photographed in a minute or two. I keep things efficient while still giving each child the attention they need. My goal is minimal disruption to your regular schedule.

7. What if a child isn’t feeling it?

That’s okay. Preschoolers are allowed to have big feelings. If someone needs a minute, we’ll give them a minute. If we need to circle back later, we will.
