Fresh 48 is so special because there are very few (if any) things more raw, special and emotional in life than having a baby.  For a lot of moms and dads, the first couple of hours and days after delivery can be a blur because of all the changes, actual labor and post delivery. I want you to remember how it felt to look at your brand new baby and to detail how fresh and new they looked just coming into the world. There’s nothing like it.

How to prepare for the shoot:

Unlike other types of photography sessions where you might buy new clothes, get your hair done or add a bit more make up than normal, Fresh 48 is truly a “come as you are” type of session.

Your body just went through an intense transformation. Wear clothing that is comfortable for you. For baby, dress him in a diaper and a swaddle. Very simple. I love to get pictures of their little bodies and don’t want to upset them too much having to take off onesies or other outfits. Also, baby will be tired and sleepy. Don’t worry about baby being awake for the pictures. This sleepy squishy newborn stage is the best!

If I am meeting you at the hospital, please confirm with your hospital that outside photographers are allowed. I haven’t had any problems in the past, but we don’t want to be “surprised” when I come either.

If we are meeting at your home, the best place to photograph is in your master bedroom.

When is the best time for the session?

When you go into labor, please email or text me and then follow up once baby has arrived. I like to come at least 24 hours after delivery to give you some time to rest. If you are wanting to capture that amazing time when siblings meet baby for the first time, we will make a plan ahead of time so that I arrive just a bit before they do.

I do recommend that sessions be held in the late morning hours for best light.

How does the session flow?

For the session, I come to you and spend anywhere from 30-60 minutes photographing your life as it's happening.  There is little to no posing involved. I can go from completely candid, to gentle directing, to semi-posed moments. I’m not likely to interrupt a beautiful moment to move one hair out of your face or tell you to tilt your head a different way, and that’s okay. This session is meant to flow naturally and stress free. And please, don't worry about me "seeing things," I have seen it all.  I have 2 babies of my own, so I do not fright easily!

That’s pretty much it! This session is meant to be very easy and stress free. I look forward to capturing this amazing time in your family’s life!
